Move Lightly - Our Sustainability Commitment

Caring for Athletes & Planet Since 2013

At Evolutio Sports Physio Richmond, we believe that caring for athletes means caring for the environment they train and compete in. Our "Move Lightly" commitment extends our philosophy of evolution and growth beyond the treatment room—protecting the trails, tracks, and natural spaces where our patients pursue their sporting passions.

Since founding Evolutio in 2013, we've understood that true healthcare considers both people and planet. That's why in 2021, we became Australia's only physiotherapy clinic to partner with Greenfleet to offset our carbon emissions, planting a milestone forest at Pearsons in Central Victoria alongside the DjaDja Wurrung people, the traditional custodians of the land.

Our Move Lightly Pledge

1. Active Transport Rewards Program

Already a Reality Since 2021 We've pioneered the Green Loyalty Card - the only programme of its kind in Australian physiotherapy:

  • Earn a stamp every time you visit using clean energy transport: bicycle, walking, running, skateboard, or (yes) hoverboard

  • 10 stamps = 1 free physiotherapy session (valued at $125)

  • Secure bike parking available at our Richmond warehouse clinic

New 2026 Enhancements to be announced:

  • 5% discount for cycling or walking to appointments

  • 5% discount for public transport users (train, tram, bus)

  • Carbon tracking integrated into our booking system—see your personal transport impact

Why This Matters for Athletes: Runners training on Melbourne's Yarra River trails, cyclists commuting via the Capital City Trail, and athletes across our community depend on clean air and healthy environments. By rewarding active transport, we're protecting the spaces where you train.

Our Environmental Partners & Impact

Partnership with Greenfleet - A Four-Year Journey

In December 2020, Evolutio Sports Physio Richmond (Melbourne) became Australia's only physiotherapy clinic to partner with Greenfleet for carbon offset forestry. Our founder, Alex Drew, purchased what Greenfleet named the "Keanu Reeves Milestone Forest" at Ngulambarra, located in Central Victoria on the lands of the Dja Dja Wurrung people (Djaara).

From Greenfleet CEO Wayne Wescott (December 2024):

"Dear Alex, It has been four years since you purchased the Keanu Reeves Milestone Forest. I want to warmly commemorate this special anniversary with you on behalf of the Greenfleet team.

Greenfleet has delivered climate action for a quarter of a century. We are so glad that you can recognise this occasion through the creation of your own native, biodiverse forest. Your Milestone Forest is now growing with over 20 different native species, which are making a significant impact in restoring biodiverse ecosystems and re-connecting habitat for wildlife, including many endangered species.

In recognition of the importance that your Milestone Forest plays in restoring our environment, we have launched a dedicated webpage honouring Ngulambarra, which is located on the lands of the Dja Dja Wurrung people (Djaara) and the site of your forest.

Your support has actively enabled the ongoing conservation work at Ngulambarra. We will continue working with the Djaara people to heal and protect Country for future generations. Your Forest is playing a vital role in this.

Thank you for helping us grow native forests and climate hope.

Warm regards,
Wayne Wescott | CEO, Greenfleet"

  • Local Richmond suppliers - Supporting sustainable, community-based businesses

Why This Partnership Matters:

As a sports physiotherapy clinic treating athletes who depend on healthy natural environments—runners on Melbourne's trails, cyclists on regional roads, outdoor sports enthusiasts across Victoria—our commitment to environmental restoration isn't performative. It's essential.

The Keanu Reeves Milestone Forest represents:

  • Direct action against climate change affecting athletic performance

  • Restoration of ecosystems where our patients train and compete

  • Respect for traditional ecological knowledge and land stewardship

  • Long-term commitment (100-year protection) matching our dedication to patient care

Why Sustainability Matters to Athletes

The Connection is Personal

Our 7,000+ patients since 2013 include:

  • Runners who depend on Melbourne's trail systems—Tan Track, Yarra trails, parkrun locations

  • Cyclists navigating city infrastructure—road conditions, air quality, climate stability

  • CrossFit athletes at local boxes like CrossFit CBD, CrossFit Hawthorn East

  • Triathletes swimming in waterways affected by pollution

  • Outdoor sports enthusiasts training in parks vulnerable to climate change

Environmental health = athlete health. Rising temperatures affect training capacity. Poor air quality impacts respiratory performance. Degraded natural spaces limit training options. By moving lightly, we protect the environments our patients need to thrive.

Evolutio Sports Physio Richmond (Melbourne) Sustainability FAQs

General Questions

Q: What does "Move Lightly" mean?

A: "Move Lightly" is our commitment to minimising environmental impact while maximising athlete health. It reflects our belief that caring for patients means caring for the planet—protecting the natural environments where athletes train, compete, and recover.

Q: How long has Evolutio Sports Physio Richmond (Melbourne) been focused on sustainability?

A: Since 2020, we've partnered with Greenfleet to offset carbon emissions. In 2021, we launched our Green Loyalty Card programme. In 2025, we formalised this commitment into our comprehensive "Move Lightly" programme with measurable goals and transparent reporting. Our founder, Alex Drew, built Evolutio with environmental consciousness from day one.

Q: Is this just greenwashing?

A: Absolutely not. We publish specific, measurable quarterly reports with real data—not vague commitments. We've been carbon-offsetting since 2020 (before it was trendy) and our Green Card program has been rewarding active transport since 2021. Our goals are achievable, time-bound, and transparently tracked. Additionally, we have third-party verification through Greenfleet's CEO testimonial and dedicated forest webpage.

Green Card & Transport Rewards

Q: How does the Green Card loyalty program work?

A: Every time you arrive at Evolutio Sports Physio Richmond (Melbourne) using sustainable transport (bike, walk, run, skateboard, public transport), you receive a stamp. Collect 10 stamps and receive one free 30-minute physiotherapy session (valued at $125). This program has been running successfully since 2021.

Q: Do I need to provide proof of sustainable transport?

A: We operate on an honour system. When you book or arrive, simply let us know how you travelled. For public transport, you can show your Myki tap if you prefer.

Q: I live too far away to bike—can I still participate?

A: Absolutely! Catch the train to Richmond Station (8-minute walk to our clinic) or take a tram along Swan Street or Bridge Road. Public transport earns 5% discounts and stamps.

Clinic Environmental Practices

Q: How is Evolutio Sports Physio Richmond (Melbourne) offsetting carbon emissions?

A: Since December 2020, we've partnered with Greenfleet to plant native forests. Our contribution created the "Keanu Reeves Milestone Forest" which revegetated 0.1 hectares at Ngulambarra, Central Victoria. This forest contains over 20 native species, is protected for 100 years, and actively sequesters carbon while restoring habitat for endangered wildlife.

Q: What's the towel reduction goal about?

A: Traditional physiotherapy clinics use substantial single-use or frequently laundered towels. We're transitioning to reusable, antimicrobial towels that require less frequent washing, reducing water consumption and energy use. Goal: 50% reduction by December 2025.

Q: Are your cleaning products actually eco-friendly?

A: Yes—we use biodegradable, non-toxic cleaning products throughout our 3-level warehouse clinic. These products are certified by Australian Ecolab standards and contain no harsh chemicals that harm waterways.

Q: How does digital-first physiotherapy help the environment?

A: Every patient receives:

  • Digital intake forms (no paper clipboards)

  • Emailed treatment plans with video exercise demonstrations

  • Electronic receipts and invoices

  • Digital progress tracking via our booking system

This eliminates thousands of printed pages annually. Our 45-minute comprehensive assessments produce zero paper waste.

Measurement & Transparency

Q: Where can I see your quarterly impact reports?

A: Reports will be published on this page every quarter (March, June, September, December). They're also shared via our newsletter and social media channels. Members receive detailed breakdowns in their quarterly check-ins.

Q: What metrics are you tracking?

A: Specific, measurable data:

  • Number of Green Card stamps issued (active transport participation)

  • Towel usage reduction (measured monthly)

  • Single-use item elimination (specific product categories)

  • Carbon offset tonnes via Greenfleet

  • Digital vs. paper transaction ratio

  • Local supplier partnership percentage

Q: How do I know you're actually making progress?

A: We publish real numbers—not percentages or vague statements. If we fall short of goals, we'll say so and explain why. Transparency includes accountability. Additionally, our Greenfleet partnership provides third-party verification through their CEO communications and dedicated forest webpage.
