It’s that time of the year again…We want to find this year’s Coach of the Year and its your chance to nominate a worthy candidate!

Criteria for eligibility:

1)     Your Coach knows their sh*t !

They are forever learning, (secretly a geek underneath all that active wear) researching, reading and refining their methods.  You may see them frequenting workshops, collaborating with other coaches and health professionals or even buried in books and articles to ensure that you are receiving the most up to date information about everything there is to know to make you a better athlete!

What it means to Collaborate in the Health and Fitness Industry

“Everyone you will ever meet knows something you don't"

Short of this sounding like “memoirs of a physio geek”, my intention for this blog post was more to express my personal insight into what it takes to be a health practitioner in today’s modern world where information acquisition is as easy as pushing a button and asking: “Siri, why do I have elbow pain?”

Taking your Running Off-Road - 3 benefits of Trail Running

Of late, it feels like the life we live has become so “technologicalised” (yeah I just made that word up!) that we are constantly plugged-in to the world wide web, social media or even the latest health and fitness app that promises to count our calories or steps to healthier and fitter versions of ourselves.

With that however, there is an ever-growing conversation that surrounds the topic of regaining some sort of balance by practicing things like mindfulness and meditation, having “digital detoxes” or even going “off the grid”.

So how does Trail Running coming into this?

Co Working. Building an Exceptional Health Industry Together

As we prepare to relocate, we not only want to redefine what it means to deliver the best service Melbourne has seen when it comes to Sport Medicine, we also want to stamp our mark in the fast moving and ever growing Health and Fitness Industry.

Mid May will see us relocating from our current 2 locations in Kew and South Yarra to a more central purpose built location in Richmond....but we don’t want to end up just being another Sports Medicine Clinic in Melbourne…we are going to do things a little differently!

Evolutio - Continuing to redefine Sports Medicine in 2016 and beyond

It seems like only yesterday that I started Evolutio, as a way of improving the care and advice to CrossFit athletes throughout Melbourne. It turns out, that as a practitioner, I felt that in order to get the best out of myself, I needed to work with athletes that naturally interested and inspired me.

A great mentor, Seth Godin, a marketing philosopher has a great, yet simple quote, “find a way to get payed to do what you enjoy.”

In fact, this was originally a tough choice, for many reasons, CrossFit athletes for instance are in some ways harder to treat than the normal population, but in other ways easier. Take for instance the complexity of the issues. Chronic injuries for instance, usually have an overload component through various muscles, ligaments and joints, leading to deterioration at one or more of these areas.

How to Train for a Half Marathon without Running at All

As we finish our month’s focus on all things ‘Running’, we dovetail into our next with the hot topic of ‘CrossFit’ (Open Season…oh yeah!)

But before we get stuck into the real CrossFit stuff, we want to explore the commonly asked question about whether CrossFit and training for an endurance running event (like a half or a full marathon) can live together…

Are your Running Shoes Sabotaging your Stride?

Our last blog in this 'Running' series is left in my capable hands. It's a case of aiming to demystify running shoes for you all.

Shoes these days are as clear as mud to the general public, and unfortunately many clinicians never analyse the effect of the running shoe on the ankle, hip, knee and back.

Working in a profession that involves footwear I see it/ hear it everyday and when I ask this question to patients. "Why are you wearing those running shoes?"

The generic answer is;

“To give me support”
or
“control rolling in of my foot”

Shoes are an extremely powerful product that can cause damage from the moment you put them on, the structural changes they cause through the foot can be mind blowing.

First of all, supportive shoes cause the foot strike to occur further away from the centre of gravity, this causes a series of ground reaction forces as a result!
