About Phill

Dual Masters. Singular expertise.

The physio Olympic lifters and CrossFit athletes seek out specifically.

Phill's surname translates, loosely, to "hero soup warrior, who cometh and salute the wild flower." According to legend, in the early 8th century, Phill ventured north with the other young warriors to complete his degree in the old Saxon land of East Anglia — which is to say, Sydney.

All mythology aside, Phill is genuinely one of Australia's top practitioners for Olympic lifting and CrossFit athletes. He holds dual Masters degrees in both Physiotherapy and Clinical Exercise Physiology from the University of Sydney, has spent years working with AFL athletes at Maribyrnong Sports Academy, and previously worked with WAFL athletes at the Western Bulldogs. He coached CrossFit for several years in Brunswick, which means he understands what it takes to train at that level from the inside.

Phill works full-time at the Maribyrnong Sports Academy during the week and treats patients at Evolutio on Saturday mornings. His Saturday slots are popular with athletes who train during the week, so booking ahead is worth doing. When should you see a physiotherapist?

Specialisations

What Phill treats best.

Eight years working with elite athletes across AFL, Olympic lifting, and CrossFit has produced depth that most physiotherapists simply don't have access to.

Olympic Lifting Injuries

Phill is one of the top practitioners in Australia for Olympic lifting athletes. He understands the technical demands of the snatch and clean and jerk at a level most physios don't, which changes how he assesses and treats injuries in these movements.

CrossFit Injuries & Performance

Phill has extensive experience managing CrossFit injuries across shoulders, backs, wrists, and knees. He coached CrossFit for several years in Brunswick and understands what the training actually demands of the body. Crossfit shoulder injury prevention

ACL Injuries & Rehabilitation

ACL rehab is one of Phill's primary specialties. His work with AFL athletes means he implements return-to-sport protocols built around the real demands of explosive, change-of-direction sport, not just pain resolution.

AFL & Contact Sport Injuries

Phill works full-time with AFL athletes at Maribyrnong Sports Academy, managing the full spectrum of Australian football injuries including lower limb injuries, shoulder problems, and acute trauma.

Wrist & Hand Injuries

Wrist and hand injuries are common in Olympic lifting and CrossFit, and Phill has extensive specific experience treating them. He understands what drives these injuries technically and how to get athletes back to pain-free lifting. CrossFit wrist injuries guide

Strength Sports & Back Pain

Beyond Olympic lifting, Phill works with powerlifters and general strength athletes, and manages spinal injuries with an understanding of how to keep athletes training while rehabilitating. Should you see a powerlifting physio?
